Fly Library

Here is a library of flies and materials to tie them from our newsletter and members past and present. 

Gibb's Fly

  • Hook: Long-shank saltwater hook, size 2–1/0 

  • Thread: White or mono

  • Wing White bucktail under silver doctor blue bucktail under white bucktail.

  • Throat/belly: Red bucktail or calf tail.
  • Cheeks: Jungle cock, guinea hen, pintail, or blue dyed swan.

Rhody Flatwing

  • Hook: Long-shank saltwater hook, size 1/0–3/0 

  • Thread: White or mono

  • Tail: White bucktail under an olive or white saddle hackle with 3 pearl & 2 gold strands of flashabou on top.

  • Body: Pearl braid 

  • Throat/belly: White bucktail
  • Wing: Sparse bucktail (white, yellow, or olive) with peacock herl on top

  • Flash: Pearlescent or gold flashabou

Third Beach Fly

  • Hook: Any hook 1/0+  but short shank or standard is best 

  • Thread: Mono

  • Tail: Craft fur tied in veiling the shank repeated until the hook point. 

  • Body/Head: 3mm foam or thicker tied in like a gurgler with craft fur hollow tied in front of the foams tie in point repeated until the hook eye. Stick on eyes and two coats of clear silicone.
