Our December meeting is our Annual Fly Tying Event. Every year we tie flies to sell at the RISAA Show, our meetings, and other club events. We then donate the proceeds to charity.
This year we will be tying flies for the charity, Reel Recovery. This organization is dedicated to helping men who have, or who have had Cancer, by bringing them into the peaceful world of fly fishing. Reel Recovery organizes 20 retreats nationwide where medical facilitators and fly fishing instructors provide a safe reflective environment, fly fishing instruction, and medical consultations at no cost. Next year our Annual Fly Tying Event will be for another of our favorite charities, Project Healing Waters.
Let’s make a concerted effort to make this meeting meaningful and constructive. To do so, we need everyone to participate. To make this as easy, simple, and user friendly as possible, there will be three tables dedicated to tying specific saltwater flies. These tables will be set up and organized by a mentor, and they will supply the tying materials and hooks. To participate at these tables, all you need to bring is a vise, scissors, bobbin, and thread. The patterns at these tables are below.
Gibbs Fly (Ray Stachelek), Rhody Flatwing (Wes Wyatt), Semper Fleye (Jeff Perry)
At the remaining tables you can tie any fly, but you will need to bring the materials/ equipment for your specific pattern. Any of these flies can be packaged and donated to our efforts.
There will be complimentary soda, water, and a limited array of snacks. If you would like you can add to the mix! Our members are not only great fly fishermen but also great holiday cookie testers.
